French as a Foreign Language (FLE) classes are included, free, in every LIBS program — for every student, whatever their starting level, from the first semester. It is not an add-on; it is part of the design.
Why a 100% English school teaches you French
An English-taught degree makes studying in France accessible. But living, interning and eventually working in France — or with French-speaking markets in Europe and Africa — rewards French. Graduates who leave Lyon with professional English and working French carry two languages into a European job market where that combination is scarce.
How it works
From your level
A positioning test at your first class establishes your CEFR starting level — complete beginners are welcome.
Alongside the degree
FLE runs in parallel with your English-taught courses — it never competes with them for credits or attention.
Measured yearly
An end-of-year level assessment tracks your progression, year after year.
Immersion does half the work
Classes give structure; Lyon gives practice. Ordering at the bakery, dealing with a landlord, small talk at an internship — daily life in France is a free language lab that no online course can replicate. The FLE classes turn that exposure into an actual, measurable level.
French is one of the two language tracks at LIBS — the other is the business English framework that runs across the whole Groupe ECL cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Are the French classes really free?
Yes — FLE classes are included in every LIBS program at no extra cost.
I speak zero French. Is that a problem?
No. Programs assume no prior French; FLE starts from your actual level, including absolute beginner.
Do I need French to graduate?
No — the degree is taught and assessed in English. French is a strong bonus we help you build, not a graduation barrier.
What level can I reach?
That depends on your starting point and practice; the yearly assessment tracks your CEFR progression honestly rather than promising a number.
